From the Project Workers
Welcome to another edition of the EVRP HACC newsletter. I hope everyone finds this edition of the newsletter useful and informative.
Update on EVRP Activities for 2004-06
Work steadily continues to progress on the mini-projects.
EVRP IT System (development of website/HACC volunteer vacancy database).
The IT developers continue to build the EVRP IT System under the direction of the working group. Shortly, the IT working Group will schedule another consultation with HACC agencies/key stakeholders to “test the IT System” (i.e., Mechanics of the EVRP site. Feedback will be sought on suggestions for improvements).
Strengthening Volunteers in HACC Services
With the development of the EVRP IT System, comes the opportunity to provide accessible resources of relevant and useable information to HACC agencies. Currently, the working group is researching and gathering information from a variety of sources to display on the IT System. This might include relevant research in HACC, e-letters, fact sheets, web linkages, advertising, training etc.

Centrelink Initiative (investigating the reasons for under-representation of Centrelink volunteers in HACC services and piloting proposed solutions).
Initial workshops have been held with HACC funded CSOs, Centrelink, a Job Network member and a community work coordinator. The workshops explored the perceived and real barriers that prevented the participation of income support receipient volunteers in HACC services.

A comprehensive list of barriers has emerged which we will sort into those which we can address and those that are beyond our control. We will then prioritise them and agree upon some strategies to overcome them. A selection of Boroondara-based CSOs are participating and making a tremendous contribution.
CALD Project (recruiting and retaining volunteers in HACC services).
Further developments continue in this project. A number of community service agencies have been approached to assist in the identification of the barriers relating to volunteering in CALD communities, and as such possible solutions will be explored through several pilots.
