Monash Volunteer Resource Centre
Monash Volunteer Resource Centre (MVRC) started in 1985 as a Centre initiated and staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers. In January 2004 the Centre moved to purpose built accomodation at 5. Myrtle Street, Glen Waverley. By this time the Resource Centre had expanded and increased its services to the community, employing several staff and a Chief Executive Officer.
Monash is one of the largest Resource Centres in Melbourne and in addition to finding and matching volunteers into positions in organisations, the Centre also offers a social support program for Home and Community Care (HACC) clients. Services offered include transport, regular fortnightly escorted shopping trips, fortnightly luncheon groups for clients and a Seniors Register whereby client safety in the home is monitored and regular contact is maintained with each individual registered person.
MVRC also offers regular training for organisations and volunteers seeking information about volunteering, working in HACC organisations and other relevant information.
The City of Monash provide some of the funding and accomodation with other funding sources being the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Department of Family & Community Services.
