About the Eastern Volunteer Recruitment Project (EVRP)

The Eastern Volunteer Recruitment Project’s mission was to provide leadership in Home and Community Care (HACC) volunteering initiatives by developing and using evidence-based strategies to build a sustainable volunteer workforce in the Eastern Metropolitan Region.
The EVRP was a DHS-funded project from 2001-2006 managed by a Committee of Management (COM) which oversaw the project; it comprised representatives from the Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre (BVRC), Monash Volunteer Resource Centre (MVRC), Doncare, Eastern Volunteer Resource Centre (EVRC) and Knox Community Volunteers (KCV).
The project covered all seven local government areas in the Eastern Metropolitan Region – Boroondara, Monash, Whitehorse, Maroondah, Knox, Manningham & the Shire of Yarra Ranges. There are nearly one hundred HACC service providers in the region ranging from local government through to local community houses and aged care facilities.
Since 2001, the EVRP worked on a number of mini-projects including:
- Establishing an equipment 'library' where HACC agencies could access items such as colour printers and digital cameras without having to purchase them.
- Commissioning and launching a comprehensive research project on volunteers amd volunteering in HACC services in the eastern metropolitan region.
- Creating and distributing a volunteer recruitment kit
- Creating and distributing orientation kits for both agencies and volunteers.
- Translating and distributing the volunteer orientation kit into four major community languages
- The creation of an IT System/website and Volunteer Vacancy Database for the EVRP
- The identification of barriers to the growth of volunteers who are on income support within the HACC sector and practical solutions to address these barriers
- The identification of barriers to the recruitment and retention of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) volunteers within the HACC sector and practical solutions to address these barriers
